Jim Hanssen grew up in Gainesville Florida where he studied art at Santa Fe Community College and later went on to work for Cain Studio airbrushing sculptures that are sold worldwide. Most of the drawings he did during that time were for a business he was creating called Between Black and White. All this came to an abrupt halt on November 12, 1994 when he was involved in a motorcycle accident. He suffered a traumatic brain injury that left him in a coma for three weeks. After coming out of the coma he had to relearn how to walk and take care of himself. Today he works to get back to the level of artwork he produced in this book.
